Identification Tips

The mint mark is on the reverse to the left of the torch base (1946-1964) or on the obverse above the date (1968-present). Silver dimes (1946-1964) have no copper stripe on the edge. Look for the designer's initials "JS" on the truncation of Roosevelt's neck.

Designed by Chief Engraver John R. Sinnock, the Roosevelt Dime was released in 1946, less than a year after FDR's death. The design honors Roosevelt's fight against polio and his role in establishing the March of Dimes. Silver content ended in 1965.
